Wyoming offers various benefits for veterans. On this page, you’ll find a concise overview of each of these benefits.

Wyoming Veterans Home

The Wyoming Veterans Home sits just three miles west of Buffalo. To qualify for residency, you need an honorable discharge and Wyoming residency. Fees are determined by your financial capability.

Wyoming Disabled Veterans Property Tax Exemption

Veterans who served overseas during an armed conflict and received an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal or equivalent, those who are disabled veterans with VA or military disability, or the un-remarried surviving spouse of a qualified veteran can benefit from a $3,000 reduction in the assessed value of their home or vehicle licensing fee.

Military Assistance Trust Fund

The Military Assistance Trust Fund offers emergency monetary grants to assist service members and/or their families facing financial hardship directly related to state or federal military duty.

Wyoming Veterans Preference for State Jobs

Veterans receive a five-point advantage over non-veteran competitors for the same position. If the veteran has a service-connected disability of 10 percent or more, the advantage increases to 10 points. Surviving spouses may also qualify for this advantage.

Wyoming Education Benefits

Wyoming National Guard members are eligible for tuition and fee waivers at the University of Wyoming, the seven community colleges, and the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy. They may also receive partial tuition assistance at private colleges within Wyoming.

Wyoming Veteran Recreation Benefits

Hunter Safety Class

Active duty members or honorably discharged veterans are waived from the firearms safety portion of the licensing procedure.

Disabled Veteran Fishing License

Wyoming veterans who are residents and have a disability rating of at least 50% can receive a complimentary lifetime fishing license.

Disabled Veteran Hunting License

Veterans who are residents of Wyoming and have a disability rating of 100% can obtain a lifetime game bird, small game, and fishing license at no cost.

Active Duty Hunting and Fishing Licenses

Any Wyoming resident deployed to a combat zone while on active duty and returning home on leave is eligible to receive complimentary resident general elk, resident general deer, resident game bird/small game, and resident daily fishing licenses.

Additionally, active duty members stationed in Wyoming for a minimum of 90 days are entitled to purchase hunting and fishing licenses at the resident price.

Special Limited Fishing Permit for Hospitalized Veterans

A complimentary license can be obtained from any VA Hospital within Wyoming, the Wyoming Department of Health, or the Wyoming Department of Family Services. Veterans are required to fish under the direct supervision of the respective institution.

Pioneer Veteran Bird, Small Game, and Fishing License

Wyoming veterans aged 65 or older, who have resided continuously in Wyoming for 30 years or more, are eligible to receive a complimentary Pioneer bird, small game, and fishing license.

Free Wyoming Parks Pass

Wyoming resident veterans with a disability rating of at least 50% can obtain a complimentary lifetime day use and camping pass for all Wyoming state parks, recreation areas, archaeological sites, and historic sites.

Wyoming Veterans Cemetery

The Oregon Trail State Veterans’ Cemetery in Evansville extends its services to all veterans who receive discharges other than dishonorable.

Burial plots are provided free of charge, and eligibility may extend to spouses and dependent children.
