Oklahoma Veterans Homes

Oklahoma boasts seven state veterans homes located in Ardmore, Claremore, Clinton, Lawton, Norman, Sulphur, and Talihina. Additionally, an eighth facility in Sallisaw is currently in the works. These homes cater to veterans requiring nursing care and who qualify for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs per diem payments. Priority on waiting lists is given to certain wartime veterans, while spots may also be claimed by eligible spouses if not already taken by a veteran.

Oklahoma Veteran Financial Benefits

Property Tax Exemption

In Oklahoma, veterans who are 100% disabled and own and reside in their property are granted a complete exemption from property taxes.

Income Tax

As of 2022, all military pay, including retirement pay, is tax-free.

Sales Tax Exemption

Veterans who are rated 100% permanently and totally disabled by the VA are exempt from state sales tax in Oklahoma. To access this benefit, veterans must register in the Oklahoma Veterans Registry.

Oklahoma Veterans Preference for State Jobs

Veterans or their un-remarried surviving spouses receive a five-point bonus on their employment tests. Disabled war veterans receive a 10-point bonus, and those with at least a 30% disability are placed at the forefront of the selection list automatically.

Oklahoma State Recreation Benefits

Hunting and Fishing Licenses

Oklahoma resident veterans holding a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs disability rating of 60% or higher are eligible for discounted lifetime hunting and fishing licenses.

The Stars and Stripes License Project, funded by donors, extends licenses to veterans and specific survivors.

Active-duty military personnel and their dependents can purchase hunting and fishing licenses at the resident rate.

Free Admission to State-Owned or Operated Parks and Museums

Veterans residing in Oklahoma who have been honorably discharged are entitled to complimentary entry to all parks and museums owned or operated by the state.
